HSM has emerged as an innovative maritime museum, exploring and exploting new ways of displaying collections. Twelve brand new exhibitions awaited a projected 300,000 visitors per year. However, during the first year, no fewer than 480,000 people entered the monumental building to experience the renewed museum. The innovations do not only relate to exhibits and story-telling. In the field of research and academic programs, new approaches are stimulated and facilitated as well.
